My Approach and Philosophy
In college, being exposed to and trained in Health at Every Size® and the idea of intuitive eating completely turned everything I thought I knew about weight and health upside down, so much so that I don’t believe it’s ethical for me to assist folx in weight loss. I believe that weight stigma and anti-fat bias is detrimental to both physical and emotional health. It’s my goal to assist my clients in finding liberation in whatever body they are in. To do this, it’s important to acknowledge that each client’s body and food story and overall health can be impacted by the various identities they may hold, diagnoses they carry, their socioeconomic status/background, upbringing and trauma history. Each client is different and while my professional title holds me as an expert in nutrition, I believe the only real expert on your body and what it needs is YOU. I’m here to enable you to uncover that!
I make every effort to provide a relational, non-judgmental, compassionate space as we work together and truly try to meet each person, right where they are at. I also truly believe that sarcasm and laughs can be therapeutic and incorporate that when appropriate.
It’s important for me to acknowledge that my lived experience has been as a thin, white, cis, hetero woman which as afforded me much privilege as I navigate the world. I practice from an anti-oppression, trauma informed framework and am continually trying to learn and grow in these areas.
